A Little About Myself!
Hello everyone! Welcome to Math 7! I am looking forward to an exciting year teaching each and every one of you. I thought it would be a good start if I shared a couple things about myself. I am originally from New York, lived in Maryland, and then moved to North Carolina. I am an avid sports fan and will bring up many conversations or math problems dealing with this topic (Boston Celtics and Carolina Panthers fan!). I will be sharing a lot more about myself throughout the year, and I hope to learn just as much about you! I am looking forward to learning from and teaching every one of you! Enjoy the year!
Materials Needed:
π The most IMPORTANT, a pencil (please refrain from pen!).
π 1 or 2-inch binder and dividers for handouts, quizzes, and exams.
π Notebook
π TI-84
Course Objectives:
π To provide a very strong foundation of pre-algebra topics to aid the student in the following years of mathematics.
π To enhance the students’ problem solving ability.
π To help the students develop great study habits.
π Most important of all, to have a great time learning mathematics and to identify the real world applications of mathematics (Its everywhere!).
π To develop and enhance the students’ number sense.
Grading Scheme:
The grading policy for Mr. Z’s classroom is the following:
π Formal Assignments 65% (Assessments, projects)
π Informal Assignments 35% (Homework, exit tickets, participation)
The number of quizzes per unit will vary. It will depend on the length of the units, the difficulty of the topics, or the need for more assessments from the lack of effort given by you, the students. Bonus points/ Extra credit will be given throughout the year, so take advantage!
Homework / Late Homework / Make Up Work / Corrections Policy:
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. It will either be problems from the textbook, a handout from class, or on www.tenmarks.com.
Homework will be checked at the beginning of class to see if it is completed. You will be able to ask questions at the beginning of each class also. I do hold the right to demand that night’s homework at any time.
Late Homework: Late homework will be accepted after the designated due date, but the student will only earn a 50%.
Make Up/ Corrections: There will be an opportunity to retake an exam if you earn less than an 85%. The highest score you will be able to earn on a retake is an 84%.
Important Websites:
www.tenmarks.com – Homework.
www.khanacademy.com – Videos and practice problems.
www.classdojo.com – Behavioral management used in class.
Again, welcome to the class, and I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Try your best and success will follow!
